Hatha Yoga

A group yoga class with people stretching on mats, focusing on flexibility and wellbeing.

What it is

Each class starts with breathing exercises and Sun Salutations to warm up. Then come standing, seated and floor postures, and it ends with guided relaxation.

Technique

Alignment comes first. Juliana talks you into each posture step by step, so you know where your weight sits and which muscles should be working.

Postures are held long enough to stretch properly, not rushed through. Each has an easier and a harder version, so beginners and regulars can share a class. Breathing stays slow and steady through the nose.

Hatha or Sivananda?

Both are classical yoga. The difference is where you start.

Hatha suits you if you’re new to yoga. Juliana takes you through it one step at a time, with clear cues and an option for every level.

Sivananda suits you if you want a challenge from the first class. Asokan leads a set sequence of twelve poses, each held to build strength, at a brisk pace. If you already train, it’s a good place to start.
